Your memories belong to you
Privacy Policy
Effective and last updated August 17, 2026
MyMappi is a private memory map. This policy explains what information the app handles, why it is needed, and the choices you have.
1. Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to the MyMappi app, website, and related services. In this policy, “MyMappi,” “we,” and “our” refer to the MyMappi service.
2. Information MyMappi Handles
- Account information: email address, display name, account identifier, and email-verification status.
- In-app notification information: notification type, message, related app action, creation time, and whether it has been read.
- Memory content: titles, stories, notes, dates, feelings, categories, people, tags, favorites, life chapters, privacy choices, and private capsule-sharing details.
- Location information: place names, cities, countries, latitude, longitude, searches, routes, and foreground device location when permission is granted.
- Media: photos, videos, voice memos, ambient audio recordings, voice links, songs, captions, and related file information that you choose to add.
- Sharing-safety information: accounts you block, reports you submit or receive, report reasons and optional details, the reported capsule and sender identifiers, a bounded snapshot of the reported capsule, moderation status, and actions taken.
- Technical information: limited sync, backup, storage, browser, device-size, product-action, and sanitized error details needed to keep the app reliable and secure.
3. How Information Is Used
MyMappi uses this information to create and display your memories, place pins accurately, search for places, provide routes and weather context, sync your account, store media, recover backups, prevent account mix-ups, respond to support and safety reports, enforce blocks and the Community Standards, and improve reliability and security.
MyMappi does not use private memory content for advertising and does not sell your personal information.
Private product analytics may record that an action occurred, such as sign-up completion, a memory save, a failed upload, opening Explore, or using Relive. These events do not include memory titles, notes, photos, videos, exact locations, search text, or other memory content. Error reports are sanitized and limited to technical status, app build, device class, and the part of the app that failed.
4. Location
Location permission is requested when you enter Explore or choose a location feature. If allowed, MyMappi may use foreground location to show the blue location dot, center the map, place a memory, find nearby memories, and calculate a route.
MyMappi does not track location in the background. The live location marker is separate from memory pins and is not saved unless you intentionally create and save a memory at that place. You can deny or revoke location permission in device or browser settings.
5. Photos, Videos, And Other Media
MyMappi only accesses media you select. Signed-in users may upload selected media to private cloud storage so it can appear on their other devices. Media that exists only in one browser or device cannot be restored elsewhere until it is uploaded or backed up.
When you intentionally send a private Memory Capsule, the verified recipient can view its text and place details and may choose to save a copy to their own account. In version 1.0, you may also choose to include one cover photo. Videos, voice memos, ambient sound, artifacts, and all other photos are not included in the shared copy. MyMappi does not publish that capsule to a public feed.
7. Service Providers And Data Sharing
MyMappi uses service providers only to operate app features. Depending on the feature used, limited information may be processed by:
- Google Firebase: authentication, private database storage, cloud media storage, limited product analytics, and sanitized technical error reports.
- Google Cloud Vision: when you choose to include a cover photo in a private Memory Capsule, that one image is processed for a transient SafeSearch safety check before delivery.
- Map and place providers: OpenFreeMap, OpenStreetMap-based services, MapTiler when configured, Esri imagery, geocoding providers, and routing providers. Search text or coordinates may be sent to fulfill a map, search, or route request.
- Open-Meteo: coordinates may be used to provide current weather context.
- Google Maps: only when you choose to open external directions.
MyMappi also shares a private capsule with the specific verified recipient you select. Providers process information under their own terms and privacy policies. MyMappi may disclose information when required by law, to protect users or the service, or as part of a future business transfer with appropriate safeguards and notice.
8. Storage And Security
MyMappi uses account-based access controls and Firebase security rules intended to restrict access to a user’s own memories, notifications, blocks, and media, plus capsules intentionally addressed to that verified recipient. Only specifically authorized administrators can access the private moderation queue, which shows reported evidence rather than a general view of private memories. Information may be stored on your device and on Google infrastructure. No service can guarantee absolute security, so keep your password private and maintain backups of irreplaceable media.
9. Retention, Account Deletion, And Data Deletion
Memories and account information are kept while your account is active so MyMappi can provide the service. You may delete individual memories inside the app. Deleting a synced memory removes its memory records and unused MyMappi-owned cloud media; a minimal private marker containing only the memory ID, owner ID, and deletion timestamps prevents another signed-in device from restoring it. A “start fresh” action removes memories but does not by itself delete the login account.
If a recipient previously chose to save a copy of a capsule to their own account, deleting your original does not automatically delete the recipient’s separate copy. The recipient controls that copy and can delete it from their account.
MyMappi provides an in-app account-deletion action. After password confirmation, it removes the Firebase account and associated memories, media, in-app notifications, private feedback, sanitized technical and activity records, sharing blocks, moderation reports, and archived report media tied to that account. Limited information may be retained only when required by law or an active legal or security process. Device caches or downloaded backups remain under your control and may require separate deletion.
10. Your Choices
- Edit or delete a memory and its media.
- Choose whether to grant location, camera, photo, microphone, or notification permission.
- Keep memories private by default or intentionally send one private capsule to a verified recipient. Friends-audience and Public options remain disabled.
- Report a received capsule, block or unblock another account, or contact mm@mymappiapp.com about a safety concern.
- Sync, export, or clear local device data.
- Log out, switch accounts, or request account and data deletion.
11. Children
MyMappi is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from a child under 13. If you believe a child has provided information, contact MyMappi so it can be reviewed and removed.
12. International Processing
Service providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Privacy and data-protection laws may differ from those in your location.
13. Changes To This Policy
We may update this policy as MyMappi develops. Material changes will be identified by a new effective date and, when appropriate, an in-app notice.
14. Contact
Use the in-app feedback option or email mm@mymappiapp.com for privacy questions, support, safety concerns, or deletion requests. Capsule abuse can also be reported directly from the received capsule.
